2018 Natural Medicine Symposium

Join us at SUNY Canton on Saturday, April 28th for our second annual symposium on Natural Medicine, "“Bridging the Gap: Nature and Chemistry”.  The event takes place from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm in Payson Hall (Room 219), and it features presentations by experts in the field:

  • Paula Youmell, RN, Wise Woman Nurse®, will present on ."Take control of your health using the rejuvenating & disease preventing properties of whole foods & common herbs.” 
  • Aswini Pai, PhD,St. Lawrence University, will present on “Eastern medicine, Western plants: a closer look at the exchange of traditional and new age herbal medicine.”

10:00 am     Welcoming Notes

Part One: Paula Youmell, RN, Wise Women Nurse®
10:15 am    Lecture: “Take your health into your own hands using the rejuvenating & disease preventing properties of whole foods and common medicinal herbs”
11:00 am     Group Activity: Herbal Infusions- the overlooked benefits of extended steeping time for increased flavor & medicinal properties

12:00 pm    Lunch Break (Bring your own or go out in Canton)
1:00 pm    Natural medicine trivia game with prizes

Part Two: Aswini Pai, PhD, St. Lawrence University
1:15 pm    Lecture: “Eastern medicine, Western plants: a closer look at the exchange of traditional and new age herbal medicine”
 2:00 pm     Group Activity: Do you know your eastern spices and their medicinal value?

Stinging nettles (Urtica dioica) are useful for making herbal infusions, as they contain several vitamins and carotenoids.
